EUobserver is a non-profit media covering underreported European affairs since 2000. We cover the European Union in depth, shedding light on EU decisions, policies, and debates that others overlook.
Our goal is to support European democracy by equipping citizens and institutions with the information they need to hold the EU establishment accountable.
We are radically independent, and rely mainly on members to fund our journalism.
Mission
European journalism is essential in making European democracy actually function. Today, there is a gap between the decision-makers in Brussels and the people they represent. Our goal is to fill this gap by reporting on how decisions are made in the European Union, and by giving people the possibility of making their voice heard within the European institutions.
We do this through original analysis, exclusive news stories, cross-border investigations, an opinion platform and through our relentless quest for transparency and accountability.

Reach
The EUobserver is one of the most influential news platforms in the European institutions. With a small but dedicated team, we succeed in having an impact. Our reporting has made sure that issues were put on the EU agenda, that ordinary people from Europe and beyond have been heard in Brussels, and even forced officials to resign because they did not live up to the moral standards the EU should have.
Principles
Independence - EUobserver is editorially independent and not aligned with any political party, government, or corporate interest. Our journalism is driven by facts, not influence. We adhere to the highest journalistic standards of accuracy and verification in every story we publish.
Transparency & accountability - We believe in scrutinising power. Our reporting aims to hold EU institutions, member states, and powerful actors accountable for their decisions and actions.
Public interest first - We serve citizens, not elites. Our journalism seeks to inform the public about how European decisions are made and the consequences of such decisions.
European perspective, local insight - With correspondents and contributors from across Europe, we bring local export voices into the heart of Europe, capturing the diversity and complexity of the EU.
Democracy, rule of law & human rights - We defend the core values of the European project. Inclusivity and diversity - We are committed to representing a wide range of perspectives across Europe, including those that are often underrepresented in mainstream media.
Funding
EUobserver is the only independent news media covering EU affairs in Brussels and beyond. We are not funded by the EU institutions. We generate our own income from memberships, group subscriptions and advertising. We also receive institutional grant support from the Adessium Foundation, Fondation Nicolas Puech, Tides Foundation and the Schöpflin Stiftung.
We pledge never to take any financial support from the tobacco industry, the defence industry, nor from any entity, private or public, that does not respect the full independence of our journalism.
Therefore, the support from our readers through memberships and group subscriptions is essential. For just €90 per year or €11 per month – or €1 per month if you're under 25, you're supporting invaluable EU affairs journalism.
